A Letter from the Cub Master
Greetings and thank you for considering Cub Scout Pack 106 in Middle Village. I would like to give you a rundown of our Pack and answer some frequently asked questions.
Cub Scouts is open to all children in Kindergarten - 5th grade. When we meet, we usually meet in dens/groups by grade level. Each den is assigned a name that represents the grade they are in: Lions (Kindergarten), Tigers (1st), Wolves (2nd), Bears (3rd), Webelos (4th and 5th). Each group is run by a Den Leader, who is a parent volunteer (and we are ALWAYS looking for parent volunteers!) The Lion group is the only group that does not have a specific leader (unless someone wants the job!) - All lion parents are den leaders. All Den Leaders need to complete online YOUTH PROTECTION workshop.
We meet most Friday evenings from 7-8 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Middle Village. Sometimes, weather permitting, we meet at Juniper Valley Park for our various activities. Starting in October, we would like to ask parents to please drop off their child at 7 and pick up at 8, EXCEPT Lions and Tiger parents who are required to stay with their child. Parents are ALWAYS required to accompany their scouts on trips and major events (like parades, parties and hikes.)
A regular Cub Scout meeting includes, but is not limited to, crafts, nature activities, community service, learning different skills (tools, fishing, whittling, etc...). We follow the CUB SCOUT HANDBOOK for each grade. This is how we assess what badges and promotions the scout receives.
Registration will open in September for new scouts (around the time that school begins.) This year, we will be charging $175 per scout ($125 for additional siblings) as well as a $50 one time new scout registration fee. That money goes to registration with the BSA (Boy Scouts of America), use and repairs of the facilities, all crafts and activities done at meetings, awards and insignia, Pinewood Derby supplies, parties and so much more. In addition, there is a $5 fee for any non-registered sibling who would like to join the meeting/activity to help cover the cost of supplies. That can be collected on a week-by-week basis. We hold several fundraisers throughout the year as well. New Scouts need to fill out a REGISTRATION FORM.
We go on monthly trips/hikes, including camping. Cub Scouts is a family run program, where everyone helps out to the best of their ability. This includes helping run the den meetings, setting up/cleaning up after parties, shopping for supplies if necessary, transporting materials for camping.
Please let me know if you have any further questions! Registration is ongoing at any meeting from 7-8 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church.
